West View Homes

SITUATION:
When the Albany Housing Authority renovated Westview Homes, a 182-unit high rise apartment building for seniors and people with disabilities, the installation of more efficient windows was a top priority.
PROBLEM:
These studio and one-bedroom apartments are home to some of Albany’s most vulnerable citizens, both physically and in terms of finance, so energy efficient windows are critical to ensure that the residents of Westview Homes remain comfortable year-round while keeping utility bills low.
CHALLENGE:
The Albany Housing Authority needed windows that would:
  • meet their budgetary requirements
  • remain attractive, durable, and energy efficient for a long period of time
  • resist air and moisture infiltration, which could lead to potential health issues such as mold and fluctuating temperatures
  • conserve energy, thereby reducing utility costs.

SOLUTION:

Kasson & Keller’s sister company Keymark Corporation developed aluminum extrusions to frame the windows that would ultimately make up Westview Homes’ window walls. The windows were then fabricated at the Kasson & Keller plant before being shipped to the apartment building for on-site installation. The aluminum extrusions paired with our  windows provide energy efficiency, structural integrity, superior resistance to air and moisture infiltration, long-term durability, and of course, a clean, attractive aesthetic.
