SITUATION:
Lagging wages and rising real estate costs have made affordable housing options a critical issue in Troy. To address the needs of families struggling to make ends meet, vacant and underutilized lots throughout the city are being transformed into brand new multi-family residences.
PROBLEM:
BBL Construction of Albany was tasked with erecting a new multi-family residential complex in downtown Troy. The building materials needed to be affordable, durable, and energy efficient while creating an atmosphere that residents would be proud to call home.
CHALLENGE:
This affordable housing project needed windows that would:
- meet strict budgetary requirements,
- remain attractive and durable for a long period of time,
- dampen air pollution from the city, and
- reduce utility costs for low income families.
SOLUTION:
Kasson & Keller’s popular 910 single hung window line was chosen for its competitive cost and thermal performance, which significantly reduce utility costs year-round. Not only are these top performance
vinyl windows durable and attractive, they also offer insulation from the noise of Troy’s downtown streets.
